Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi Izuku Midoriya: Full Cowling!

My Hero Academia is one of my favourite anime series (although I understand some may consider it a generic choice). And given the fact that I am a wholehearted action figure nerd and collector, it's no surprise that I have bought figures from the series. First I got the Figma version of Deku and now I have acquired the reissued version of Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi Izuku Midoriya released by Kaiyodo!

Aesthetics:

Amazing Yamaguchi Deku looks gorgeous, with all of the details being nicely painted in, both on the front and back. The hair is also painted particularly nicely, with what looks like a base coat of black and green being sprayed from the top closely recreates the shading of the anime. Unlike some other My Hero Academia figures, Kaiyodo has went for a slightly more realistic style and proportions for their figures which gives them a cool vibe.

Articulation:

This figure's articulation is superb, using the standard joints used in the Revoltech line, but in this case they are much better integrated. Revoltech figures themselves are designed to be at their while in extreme poses, and that is certainly true with Midoriya as well. Here's a rundown of his articulation:
  • Double dumbbell joint at the neck
  • Ball-jointed hood
  • Butterfly joints at the shoulders
  • Dumbbell joint at each shoulder
  • Joint at the elbow to provide both an over 90' bend and forearm swivel
  • Wrist joint provides hinge and swivel
  • Mid-torso ball joint
  • Ball joint at the waist
  • Swivel for the hip pouches
  • Ball joint hips
  • Thigh swivel
  • Deep knee joint
  • Ankle joint
  • Toe joint

Accessories:

AY Deku includes a flip-ton of accessories, probably contributing to the high price, but it makes the figure even better overall. Deku includes three interchangeable faces (stoic, open mouth happy/shocked, angry), four pairs of eyes (looking forward, looking left, looking right, shocked/worried) and 5 pairs of eyes for the angry face (looking forward, looking top-right, looking bottom-right, looking top-left, looking bottom-left) as well as alternate lightning hair, two small green lightning effects (left and right), two small pink lightning effects (left and right) and eight regular green lightning effects (four left and four right). There are also four pairs of hands (dramatic open, closed fists, finger-flick, pen-and-notebook holding hands), a pen and anime-accurate notebook. Additionally there are two clear stands, one for posing the figure, and the other for the word two word bubbles.

Comparisons:

Izuku here is a 1/12 scale figure, which puts him at about 14.5cm (or 5.7 inches), which means he's roughly the average height for a 1/12 figure, if not slightly short.

The most important comparison here is between this Amazing Yamaguchi Deku and the Figma Deku. As you can see the the AY version is slightly taller, which is makes sense if you consider this to be a version of Deku further into his journey to become a hero (which it is, given the different suit). The proportions on this version are also more realistic, with the hands and head not being as exaggerated as the Figma.
Here it is with some other 1/12 inch figures, Jazwares Fortnite Legendary Series 8-Ball and Hasbro Marvel Legends Gamerverse Captain America, and then with some 1/12 scale Tokusatsu figures, Power Rangers Lightning Collection Dino Charge Black Ranger and Figure-Rise Standard Kamen Rider Ex-Aid.

Final Verdict:

Overall, I believe that the Amazing Yamaguchi Izuku Midoriya is a fantastic figure, and there aren't any better as far as articulated Izuku Midoriya figures. The accessories are also awesome and increase my enjoyment of the figure, though the high price brings the set down somewhat for me. I recommend this figure for fans of My Hero Academia and action figures, but not as an impulse purchase.
